I graduated in 2016 from the University of Canberra with a double degree;
B. Graphic Design, B. Advertising and Marketing Communication. I also have obtained a Certificate IV in New Small Business.
Since moving to Canberra I have been made quite aware of the challenges and disadvantages people living in rural and remote areas face compared to their city counterparts, especially within the communication industry. It was this combined with my passion for promoting the rural Australian life that drove me to create Maddie Cook Communications. I wanted to offer businesses in these areas a supportive and friendly approach to meeting their communication needs. I specialise in graphic design and marketing as well as social media and advertising. My aim is to better connect my clients to their clients and help reach their short and long term goals to grow their business. I continue to work with the Graziher magazine to produce print adverts for a diverse range of businesses each edition.
Growing up on a beautiful family farm in central New South Wales I have become a passionate advocate for Australian farmers and Australian grown produce. Since I was a child I have always been enthusiastic about art and design which has developed into love for communication in our modern world.
I volunteer as the Social Media Director at Country to Canberra, a not-for-profit organisation that continues to empower young rural women to reach their leadership potential. The organisation encourages ambition, the importance of self-belief and aims to connect young rural women with motivational mentors.
As I grew up on our family farm and enjoyed a country education I have a personal understanding of living and working on the land and building businesses in rural and remote areas. I have seen firsthand the hardships and challenges and also the accomplishments and success experienced by rural businesses.
I enjoy keeping up to date with the latest news, trends and accomplishments of the many advertising, media and creative agencies through sources such as AdWeek, mUmBRELLA, Campaign Brief and Ad Age. I am also interested in the use of Social Media to generate business sales and create competitive advantage. For information regarding social media I enjoy reading articles from Social Media Today and Social Media Examiner.
Previously I have been shortlisted for a Media Federation of Australia Internship and have had exposure to creative industry professionals through two University of Canberra Graphic Design Exhibitions where I got the opportunity to exhibit my work. I have also received a certificate of appreciation from the United Nations.
Prior to graduating I completed an internship at Fifty Acres, a virtual communication agency based just outside our Nation's Capital. Throughout this internship I was counselled by Fifty Acres principle Jo Scard and Operations Director Brigid Lombard.
On weekends I enjoy strolling through Farmers Markets, Landscape photography, Painting, Cooking up a storm and of course spending time with my nearest and dearest!
